When Steve Herr held the megaphone in the Rotunda of the Madison Statehouse last winter and proclaimed that he was a small business owner the crowd grew quiet.
“I stand with you,” explained Herr. “In order for my business to thrive, I need a middle class that thrives. If my business and the middle class are thriving, our children, our community, and our state will thrive. However, none of this will happen if we don’t have strong unions. In order to have a strong middle class we need strong unions.”
Herr, who owns Glacier State Distribution, a distribution company which also sells mulch and landscaping stones, own six railroad cars for his business. Three of the railcars transport stone and three transport salt for roads. (http://www.glacierstone.net/Glacier_Stone/Welcome.html).
Herr wanted to support working people as well cheer up those who support the cause and have been fighting for democracy in Wisconsin. Since railcars make good billboards and are easy to paint, Herr decided to paint one of the railroad cars with the Stand with Wisconsin Blue Fist image.
The railcar was painted in Kenosha and will transport road salt from Saskatchewan, Canada to Kenosha, Wisconsin.
At the next railroad crossing you come to, be sure to watch out for a bright blue railcar with a Blue Fist and white Stand with Wisconsin letters.
