Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale released the following statement as Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Governor Tim Walz visit Eau Claire:
Wisconsin union families proudly welcome Vice President Kamala Harris to Eau Claire today. Workers are energized to rally with her and her VP pick Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. As Wisconsinites come together to move our country forward, the Wisconsin AFL-CIO ‘Labor Votes’ program is educating union members on the pro-worker record of the Harris-Walz ticket.
As Attorney General, Kamala Harris cracked down on corporate greed and took on the big banks to deliver relief for struggling homeowners. In the United States Senate, Harris strongly supported the PRO Act and is a steadfast advocate for workers’ rights. Vice President Kamala Harris is a partner in the most pro-union administration in our lifetimes, playing a key role in rebuilding our nation’s crumbling infrastructure, investing in good-paying union jobs and apprenticeship programs, bringing manufacturing back to the USA and saving worker pensions.
With Vice President Kamala Harris’s pick of Minnesota Governor Tim Walz as her running mate, the presidential contest is now set. As Governor, Tim Walz signed into law legislation that made virtually all of Minnesota’s workers eligible for paid sick days. He banned noncompete agreements and employer captive audience meetings. He strengthened protections against wage theft in the construction industry and required meatpacking plants to create injury prevention plans. When UAW workers at the Stellantis plant in Plymouth, Minnesota went on strike last year, Governor Walz joined them on the picket line.
Congratulations to Governor Walz and to Vice President Harris for making a great pro-labor pick. In the days ahead, we are sure to hear more fear mongering from the Trump campaign about the Harris-Walz ticket. Despite their best efforts, we in the labor movement will be working hard to get the message out that for America’s workers, there is only one choice in November: Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz.
