Senator Tammy Baldwin joins the OPEIU Local 39 strike line

Senator Baldwin joins OPEIU Local 39 members on the strike line outside TruStage/CUNA Mutual 

 

Senator Baldwin joined the OPEIU Local 39 strike line outside TruStage/CUNA Mutual in Madison.  

Union brothers and sisters at TruStage/CUNA Mutual have been working without a contract for over 425 days. Union members are holding an unfair labor practice strike as they continue to call on TruStage/CUNA Mutual to come to the table and bargain in good faith for a fair contract. A total of nine unfair labor practices have been filed, charging that TruStage has violated the law by refusing to bargain, retaliating against union members, failing to provide information, and surveilling union members. 

Senator Baldwin brought solidarity and support as she marched on the picket line and met with OPEIU Local 39 working families.  

Show your support for striking OPEIU Local 39 families by joining the picket line, Monday – Friday, 7am to 6pm at 5910 Mineral Point Road. Parking available at Garner Park, corner of Mineral Point Road and South Rosa Road. 

Join the Community Caravan in support of OPEIU Local 39 on Wednesday May 31 from 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm. The car caravan will launch at 4:00 pm from the Garner Park parking lot (333 S Rosa Rd, Madison). Car-safe markers will be provided to deck out your car with pro-union phrases.

Master Lock recently announced the company’s decision to close their Milwaukee plant after 100 years, leaving some 400 workers without a job. Master Lock was founded in Milwaukee and is a manufacturing icon of our state. It is deeply disheartening to see another profitable corporation choose to close its doors in a never-ending quest for profit without regard for the people who do the work to make the company a success.

Join us tomorrow, Wednesday, May 31, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. with a speaking program at 3:00 p.m. as we call on Master Lock to keep the doors open and save good union jobs in Wisconsin.

OPEIU Local 39 members vote to extend strike

Striking workers at TruStage (formerly CUNA Mutual Group) have voted to extend their strike. 450 workers represented by the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 39 have been on an unfair labor practice (ULP) strike since May 19^th.

“I'm voting to authorize an extension of the strike because we're all prepared to do what it takes to get TruStage to stop breaking the law, and to secure a fair contract," said Will Roberts, a Media Specialist and member of OPEIU Local 39.

Teuta Resad, a programmer and union member for over twenty-five years, said, “This strike has united us even more, and we will not stop until we get what we deserve.”

Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale joined the strike line in Madison bringing solidarity and support from union members across the state. “We stand with you united as one strong labor movement. Together, we will stay united to ensure every working person gets what they deserve,” said President Bloomingdale.

At a gathering of union leaders from various sectors at Ingeteam, Inc. in Milwaukee, Wisconsin AFL-CIO President Stephanie Bloomingdale announced the labor federation’s endorsement of Senator Tammy Baldwin for re-election in 2024.

President Bloomingdale observed, “Tammy knows that the true strength of our American economy lies in the security and well-being of our workers. She understands and supports the role unions play in promoting that security. Senator Baldwin is a tireless champion of working people in Wisconsin. At each and every opportunity, Tammy Baldwin has stood up and spoken out to protect and promote a made-in-Wisconsin, made-in-America economy. IBEW Local 2150 members at Ingeteam, Inc., where the Wisconsin AFL-CIO endorsement announcement was made, proudly make the only wind turbines that are fully built in the United States. Thanks to the Inflation Reduction Act's Buy American compliance standard championed by Senator Baldwin, Local 2150 members will also manufacture electric vehicle (EV) chargers at the facility. This new investment will support hundreds of good paying Wisconsin jobs over the next five years.

Over 450 union members of the Office and Professional Employees International Union (OPEIU) Local 39 are on an unfair labor practice strike at CUNA Mutual Group in Madison. OPEIU Local 39 members have been attempting to negotiate a fair contract with their employer since February of 2022 and have been working without a contract for over 400 days.  

Stand with OPEIU Local 39 working families on strike in Madison:  

• Join workers on the picket line. Picket lines will be held from 7am to 6pm at CMFG’s offices on 5910 Mineral Point Road while the strike is in effect. Picket Line starts today Friday, May 19. Resumes Monday, May 22. Parking available at Garner Park, corner of Mineral Point Road and South Rosa Road.

The history of our union movement has clearly demonstrated that only by standing shoulder to shoulder have working people gained the family-supporting wages, pay equity and other benefits which we are rightly due. The Wisconsin labor movement proudly stands in solidarity with our sisters and brothers of OPEIU Local 39 on strike at CUNA Mutual as they take brave action to secure a fair contract. We urge CUNA Mutual to come to the table and negotiate in good faith.”
