Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, released the following statement congratulating the workers of Colectivo Coffee who have won their NLRB-overseen union election. Colectivo workers in Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago are organizing with International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Local 494 in Wisconsin and Local 1220 in Illinois.
“You will now be able to get your cup of coffee — union strong — at all Colectivos, knowing the working people behind your order have real power in their workplace with the IBEW,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO.
“Congratulations to the IBEW 494 and 1220 Colectivo Collective workers who stood together in solidarity despite the outrageous anti-union campaign waged by their bosses. Solidarity wins the day.
“Across our state and nation, working people are coming together and demanding change. Workers are organizing in unions for safety, respect, and fundamental rights on the job.
“Workers at Colectivo Coffee first started organizing years ago. The delays and obstacles to forming a union that Colectivo workers faced demonstrate the need for the U.S. Senate to pass the Protecting the Right to Organize (PRO) Act to modernize our labor law. This will ensure every worker can exercise their right to join a union, which is the only way to strengthen the American economy.”
