Stephanie Bloomingdale, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO, released the following statement in solidarity with SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin nursing staff at UnityPoint Health-Meriter in Madison who are seeking a fair contract.
“Nurses are there for us in our time of need with quality and compassionate care. During the pandemic, nurses sacrificed their own health and safety, and the health and safety of their loved ones, working long hours and extra shifts, in order to care for and protect our communities.
"Now is the time for us all to stand with SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin nurses at UnityPoint Health-Meriter in the fight for a fair contract with the respect, protections, and support needed after a traumatic year. A just contact helps patients receive the highest quality care possible and makes our healthcare system strong with the voices of frontline workers.
"Throughout COVID-19 we’ve rightfully called nurses heroes. Let’s treat them like the heroes they are by respecting their voices. We call on UnityPoint Health-Meriter to negotiate in good faith to reach a fair and just contract with SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin nurses.”
