Wisconsin Labor Day 2018 Events

On Labor Day, we recognize and honor the achievements of all of America’s working people. As we enjoy the fellowship of our loved ones at a barbecue, parade or other community event, it also is important to reflect on the best ways working people can come together to build an economy that works for all of us. This Labor Day, we stand together for the freedom to collectively bargain together with your coworkers as a team for a better life.

Celebrate with your union brothers and sisters and community members around the state as we honor all who labor. On Labor Day, we remember the achievements of the union movement and pledge to keep up the fight for safe workplaces, livable wages and a fair economy that works for all of us.

United to Defeat Scott Walker

We are pleased to announce the Wisconsin AFL-CIO endorsement of Tony Evers for the next Governor of Wisconsin. The labor movement is united to defeat Scott Walker and put Wisconsin back on the right track.

Scott Walker's union-busting attacks on worker rights and cuts to schools and essential services has left Wisconsin’s economy failing.

From teaching science in Baraboo to serving as statewide Superintendent of Wisconsin schools, Tony Evers has dedicated his life to ensuring Wisconsin kids get the best education possible. Tony Evers knows that unions are critical to the well-being of families in our state, providing living wages, quality health care, safe working conditions and job security. As governor, he will work hard to reverse the effects of Scott Walker's anti-labor agenda.

We would like to thank our union brother Mahlon Mitchell for running a positive, worker-centered campaign. Mahlon Mitchell raised many important issues that will help shape change in Wisconsin in the future. We know this isn’t the last we will hear from firefighter Mahlon Mitchell!

Now, it is time to come together and support Tony Evers. Mark your calendars for Election Day on Tuesday, November 6.

Firefighter and union leader Mahlon Mitchell is the best candidate for Governor. Mahlon Mitchell has an economic plan that lifts up working people and restores collective bargaining rights. He believes in raising the minimum wage, repealing Right to Work and Act 10, investing in our infrastructure and fully funding our schools. Mahlon Mitchell is the best candidate to inspire large voter turnout in November.

Our democracy is strongest the more people participate. Get to the polls and bring a friend, neighbor or family member with you.   

 

Courage, Dignity, Respect for Labor

As a firefighter, Mahlon Mitchell has spent the last 20 years running into burning buildings and being a first responder to Wisconsin families during times of crisis.  He has a mantra, “all hands working” and “leave nobody behind.” As Governor, Mahlon Mitchell will continue to bring the values of courage, dignity and respect for labor as he fights for the people of Wisconsin.

This Tuesday, August 14, we have the great opportunity to stand in solidarity and support our own union brother Mahlon Mitchell for Governor of Wisconsin.

Mahlon Mitchell gets the issues that matter most to working families. He will fight for restoring prevailing wage, to end so-called “right to work,” and restore real collective bargaining rights for all. This will lead to higher wages, safe jobs, and a secure retirement for workers.

Missouri Voters Reject Right to Work

A historic night in Missouri! Yesterday, Missouri voters went to the polls and by a 2-1 margin rejected Right to Work. With a citizen veto, Missouri voters made clear their support for strong unions and collective bargaining rights. Right to Work laws do nothing but lower wages and workplace standards for workers. Last night’s win in Missouri is a victory for every worker across the country. We all benefit when union rights and collective bargaining rights are strong.

Something big is happening with America’s working people—something that will bring change—and last night was just the latest evidence of this groundswell.

As Wisconsin workers, let’s take the energy from Missouri and continue to build momentum for working people. On August 14, vote union brother and firefighter Mahlon Mitchell for Governor. Mark your calendars now for the November 6 elections and volunteer with our Labor 2018 voter contact program to help voters learn more about our endorsed candidates.

Working people came together through our unions and defeated Prop A, stopping so-called Right to Work from becoming law in Missouri. This is a worker-powered win that will benefit all workers in Missouri and in America.

Congratulations to President of the Missouri AFL-CIO Mike Louis, Secretary-Treasurer Jake Hummel and all the workers in Missouri for leading and winning this historic fight. We are proud to stand together in solidarity.

You know Mahlon from standing in solidarity with teachers, trades workers, machinists, steelworkers, students, food workers, home care workers and all Wisconsin workers during the Act 10 and Right to Work rallies. Now, it’s time to support union brother and firefighter Mahlon Mitchell for Governor by voting in the Tuesday, August, 14 primary election.

Mahlon Mitchell is ready to defeat Scott Walker. He has a plan to expand economic opportunity, raise wages and create good jobs for working families.
