The 26th annual National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) Stamp Out Hunger food drive is set for this Saturday, May, 12. Fill the blue bag left by your letter carrier with non-perishable food donations and leave it by your mailbox before mail delivery on Saturday. Your letter carrier will collect the bag on Saturday, May 12. All donations stay local!
The 2017 Stamp Out Hunger food drive collected more than 80 million pounds of non-perishable food. Saturday’s food drive is the largest one-day food drive in America and it is union-made. National partners with the NALC include the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, United Food and Commercial Workers International Union (UFCW) and the AFL-CIO.
Set out your non-perishable food well before your letter carrier’s normal pick-up time. The earlier the better. Note that letter carriers will be delivering and collecting mail as usual, on top of collecting food donations, so pickup time could slightly vary. Your letter carrier might also have helpers. A good rule of thumb is to have the bags by your mailbox by 9 a.m.
Show your union and community solidarity by making a food donation during this year’s Stamp Out Hunger food drive. Be sure to leave a bag of nonperishable food items by your mailbox on Saturday, May 12, and thank a letter carrier for doing the rest!
