As Congress debates the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), local lawmakers are standing with Wisconsin’s workers to call for a halt to the Fast Track of bad trade deals.
Members of the state Senate and Assembly have sent letters calling on Wisconsin’s federal delegation to reject Trade Promotion Authority for the Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal and ensure the deal is accountable. As debate picks up in Congress, working people and their legislators are concerned about job loss, human rights violations and the lack of transparency in the massive 12-nation trade deal.
“Wisconsin’s state Senators and Representatives are urging members of Congress to do right by Wisconsin workers, be courageous and reject Fast Track of the TPP in order to protect Wisconsin jobs,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “There is broad support from every corner of Wisconsin to stop this bad trade deal. Wisconsin needs more jobs, not less. Wisconsin needs better wages and labor standards, not worse. Above all, Wisconsin needs the entire Wisconsin members of Congress to oppose Fast Track Authority for the TPP.”
“For decades, we’ve seen bad trade deals devastate our families and our communities through layoffs and plant closures,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin AFL-CIO. “Wisconsin can’t afford another bad deal that lowers wages and outsources good American jobs. Working families are proud to thank the responsive and forward-thinking State Senators and Assembly Representatives who are calling on Wisconsin’s Congressional delegation to stand up to this low-wage, corporate agenda and reject Fast Track of bad trade deals.”
Good initiative by the State Senators by producing more jobs.
