The Shepherd is Back at Roundy’s!

You did it!  Due to an overwhelming response from customers, Roundy’s has decided to reverse their decision and carry the Shepherd Express in all of their locations.

Yesterday, we told you that Roundy’s stores would stop carrying Milwaukee’s only independent newspaper The Shepherd Express.  We provided contact information so that Roundy’s shoppers could urge management to keep the paper in their stores.

Your action made a difference!  Earlier today, the Shepherd Express was notified that Roundy’s reversed their position.  The papers will remain on their exiting racks in their current locations in ALL Roundy’s stores.

Take Action: The Shepherd Express Needs Your Help!

Roundy’s grocery stores are removing The Shepherd Express, Milwaukee’s independent newspaper from their stores.  The Shepherd Express has been in all of Roundy's grocery stores, both Pick 'n Save and Metro Market, for the past 10 years.   An estimated 192,000 Shepherd Express readers do their grocery shopping at Roundy’s stores.   

 

Call Roundy’s and let them know that you want the Shepherd Express to remain in their stores!  Their customer service number is 866-279-6269.  You can email Pick 'n Save using this form.

 

On Wednesday, March 30, within hours of the Shepherd Express' endorsement of JoAnne Kloppenburg for Wisconsin Supreme Court, Roundy's emailed the Shepherd and told them to remove their newspapers from five Brookfield stores. The Shepherd has now been told to remove their papers from all other remaining stores.

 

The Shepherd Express is currently available at more than 1,100 locations, including virtually every supermarket in the five-county Milwaukee metropolitan region.

 

The newspaper rack takes up 2 square feet at the exit door beyond the cash registers—the least valuable floor space in the store, due to theft issues, according to a business consultant.

 

This is a freedom of speech and a freedom of the press issue.  Roundy’s shoppers deserve the right to pick up the free, independent publication at their local grocery store.

Ohio workers have lost some of their most basic rights under Senate Bill 5, including their right to collectively bargain. 

SB 5, like Scott Walker’s union-busting bill, is part of Wall Street’s strategy to chip away at collective bargaining rights, state by state, piece by piece, until unions are weakened and any checks on corporate power are destroyed. This must not stand.

As working people in Wisconsin we have stood together in solidarity to fight against undemocratic attacks on union rights.  Workers across the country have stood with us.  Now is our time to lend our support to our brothers and sisters in Ohio.
