The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO issued the following statement today in support of the Occupy Wall Street protests:
“The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO stands in solidarity with the people of the Occupy Wall Street movement,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “For over two weeks, protestors, many of them young and out of work, have come together to force a much needed conversation about jobs, the economy and corporate greed. They are an inspiration to all who are fighting for a better America. As the movement spreads, our voices grow. Hopefully lawmakers, bankers and brokers will wake up and realize that they have a responsibility to the 99%, not just the global elite.”
“The people occupying Wall Street are fighting for the same things we are fighting for in Wisconsin: a fair economy, an end to corporate greed, stronger communities, livable wages and an honest day’s work for all who choose to labor,” explained Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “Our society is headed in the wrong direction. We are becoming a country of the haves, for the haves, by the haves. As the top 1% consolidates our wealth, the rest of us are left behind. We proudly stand with our brothers and sisters of the Occupy Wall Street movement to demand a more just society and a brighter tomorrow.”
The folks involving Wall Street are going to battle on behalf of the same things we are defending in Wisconsin
