Get out the Vote efforts kicked off this morning at over thirty locations around the state. Volunteers are picking up walk packets and phone bank sheets now until Election Day. “People feel like there were hidden agendas and people feel mislead,” explained Larry Ward who works at the Department of Veteran Affairs and regularly volunteers at the Milwaukee Area Labor Council. “On the phones I explain what the candidates will do for working families, not corporate America.”
This Tuesday, August 9, the people of Wisconsin will begin to reclaim their state. The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO is supporting Nancy Nausbum (Senate District 2), Jessica King (Senate District 14), Jennifer Shilling (Senate District 32), Fred Clark (Senate District 18), Sandy Pasch (Senate District 8) and Shelly Moore (Senate District 10). Congresswomen Gwen Moore pumped up volunteers at the Milwaukee Area Labor Council this morning. Wearing the Blue Fist, Stand with Wisconsin T-shirt, Moore energized a room full of volunteers.
“The only way to fight their money is with the people and we got the people,” explained Rep. Gwen Moore. “I worked with Alberta Darling for 16 years. I remember when she was a Republican, not a right-wing extremist. I don’t recognize this Alberta Darling anymore– she went with the money over the people and she must be recalled.”
Sheila Cochran, Secretary-Treasurer of the Milwaukee Area Labor Council thanked all volunteers for doing the work the past months which will make a difference this Tuesday at the ballot box. Breakfast was on hand to feed and fuel the volunteers before they hit the doors and phones.
“This is about what Wisconsin could be,” explained Alicia Treadwell member of SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin and regular phone bank volunteer at the Milwaukee Area Labor Council. “Everyone has seen what Scott Walker and The Walker 6 have done to schools, communities and health care. We’re not being heard, so its time we take back Wisconsin.”
