Today JoAnne Kloppenburg has called for a recount of the Supreme Court election results. The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO applauds her decision
“An honest and open recount is the only way that the voters of Wisconsin can have confidence in the results of the 2011 Supreme Court election,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “A manual recount will only add to the integrity of the electoral process and provide reassurance to the unprecedented amount of voters who came out on April 5 to make their voices heard.”
“This race was a dead heat before something questionable happened in Waukesha,” said Stephanie Bloomingdale, Secretary-Treasurer of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “Each and every voter in Wisconsin deserves to be certain that their vote counted and was counted correctly. No matter the results of the recount -- April 5 demonstrates how Gov. Walker’s extreme overreach and attack on workers’ rights united Wisconsin to turn a runaway win for an incumbent judge into a competitive race.”

The "Questionable" thing was the clerk giving an incorrect vote count to the AP. Any ideas why the Brookfield paper had the correct vote totals that night?

This is Democracy in action. A hand recount, after such a discrepancy is the American way such things sgould be done. We the People, make the decisions, and we live with the outcomes. Any time there is a discrepancy of this sort, it transcends political boundaries. On the other hand, if there was anything nefarious involved, it is a separate issue and there should be charges pressed and the crime prosecuted. Until that time though, a hand count is the first way to reconcile this situation.

Democracy is ignoring an election? Twice?
Is the union's official position that NOBODY in Brookfield voted? Because that is what the AP reported --- and they could've asked the city of Brookfield to verify and gotten the correct numbers.
An incorrect unofficial count to the press isn't a scandal. Sorry.

@Mike - your position has been completely and utterly rejected. I call for a systemwide investigation of every single Republican clerk & recorder and arrest these that have been found to manipulate numbers to favor Republicans for the last, oh, 30 years.
Kathy Nickolaus has been investigated before and WILL be investigated, and during her interrogation will produce a full confession implicating the entire Wisconsin Republicans and that the hand recount will confirm that Nickolaus attempted to steal the elections from the Democrats, and will be sentenced to life in prison, without any CHANCE of parole. She will be placed in solitary with minimal contact with the guards. Food will be just bread and water. That is a fitting punishment for a criminal that has been found guilty of attempting to subvert Democracy.

I've not seen Republicans stealing elections as Democrats did in MN and WA. So, let's try and remain rational.
Kathy did nothing here. The vote totals she "corrected" were readily available with the city of Brookfield on election night (the Brookfield patch had them). The numbers match up exactly. So, unless you wish to argue that NO people voted in Brookfield (which is what the unofficial tally to the AP stated --- again, UNOFFICIAL tally), then this is a non-issue and it's a case of sour grapes. The AP didn't look into why the number was zero and just went with it. It was a mistake, but there isn't any "false" vote totals or the like here.
Nice of you to sentence her to a permanent jail sentence with what can generously be described as absolutely no evidence. Everything I have written is easily verifiable by other sources.
The people of WI have turned against you. There is a reason for that.

Well said Mike. I can't wait until the recount uncovers more votes by democrats in Madison and Milwaukee for Kloppenburg than registered voters. Can't wait to see hawkeye spin that!

Have you seen the chart at http://www.politico.com/static/PPM191_recount.html Mr. Neuenfeldt? You approve spending $1,000,000 from the state budget when the margin is so large? That doesn't seem like being a wise steward of hard-earned money.

Thanks for wasting more of the state of Wisconsin tax payer money. She lost. The silent majority has spoken!
