“This is a big year because we have to elect a governor who supports working class families. Tom Barrett is the candidate that we trust and endorse,” according to Martha Williams, registered nurse and recent Milwaukee area labor walk volunteer from WFNHP-AFT Local 5001. As a shop steward for her Local, Williams has heard about dangerous cuts to the Milwaukee County mental health system under Scott Walker’s administration.
“I take care of two elderly clients. I don’t want to see their quality of life deteriorate because of bad political decisions,” says Karen Black, member of SEIU Healthcare Wisconsin.
Over the past week, Labor 2010 volunteers in Appleton, La Crosse, Madison, Milwaukee, Waukesha and Wisconsin Rapids have hit the doors in support of Senator Russ Feingold and gubernatorial candidate Tom Barrett, in part because they will defend the vital public services that sustain our communities and create family-wage jobs.
Member to member walks are off to a great start, and we need your help to keep them going strong. Click here to view the labor walk schedule for the rest of August.
