“A year and a half later, we a have a tremendous amount to show for our political efforts,” says Phil Neuenfeldt, Secretary Treasurer of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO. “Our volunteers set the stage for success by turning out voters during Labor 2008, and the continued engagement of union members keeps working family issues in the forefront.”
The 2009-2010 session of the Wisconsin Legislature ended in April. When all was said and done, the efforts of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO and its affiliates helped to pass 42 bills and policy items that benefit workers and stabilize the middle class.
In this series of blog posts, we will celebrate recent legislative victories which will:
- Create tax fairness and strengthen the public services that make Wisconsin a great place to live.
- Rebuild our state infrastructure with family-wage jobs.
- Expand our manufacturing sector as part of a Green Economy for working people.
Be sure to follow the blog all week for more details, or click here to read about individual bills and budget items.
(On the national level, health insurance reform was possible because working people got engaged in the 2008 elections and stayed involved through the legislative process. Now some of important details about how to apply the changes will be in the hands of state and local officials. In 2010, we must elect candidates who will interpret and implement the new health care laws for the benefit of working families rather than big insurance companies.
In the photos above, union members share information and dispel myths about the new health insurance reform laws. Click here to read more about what health care reform will mean to you and your family.
