Over the weekend volunteers from the Waukesha County Labor Council built wheelchair accessible ramps at Menominee Park. Camp Pow Wow within the park hosts campers from the Association for the Rights of Citizens with handicaps (ARCh) during the summer.
“Union members are community members first and foremost,” says Jeff Arnold, President of the Waukesha County Labor Council. “We fight for access and equality on the job, and we want our kids to be able to enjoy the great outdoors with ease and dignity as well.”
The United Way coordinated this community service effort through labor liaison Kurt Schmidt.
IUPAT DC 7 donated the wood for this project. The participants included members from BAC Local 7, DALU Local 24111, IAMAW Local 1377, IBEW Local 2150, IUPAT Local 781, LIUNA Local 113, OPCMIA Local 599, and the Wauksha County Labor Council.

I want thank the guys for coming out on Saturday. We were fortunate that the weather held out. This was the best volunteer project that I have ever been a part of. We completed four access ramps before noon. I can't say enough about how everyone worked together. We hope to finish the five remaining ramps this summer. We hope that these ramps will make it possible for everyone to enjoy camping. ARCh is a wonderful organization, it was a pleasure working with them on this project. We hope to finish the remaining five ramps this summer!
