Wisconsin union members wrote 5,081 letters to Congress, urging our elected officials to stand with working families and support swift health insurance reform with a strong public insurance option. The phone calls made on the National Day of Action are still being counted, but one thing is clear. Working families expect Congress to act in their interests, rather than siding with insurance industry lobbyists.
In letter after letter, workers and retirees shared their personal experiences with our broken health care system and told our leadership that the only way to fix things is with a public insurance option which will control costs, expand access and keep insurance companies honest. They also made it clear that reforms should be financed in a responsible way, not by taxing the benefits of the working people who can least afford it.
Remember, the line is still open:
If you haven't called recently, it is urgent that you do so today.
We must stay in constant contact with our Representatives and Senators on this issue. You can bet that they are hearing from the insurance industry.
