The 27th biennial convention of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO opened with a welcome call to order by Mark Westphal, President of the Fox Valley Labor Council. Mahlon Mitchell, President of the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin called for the presentation of the colors by the Professional Fire Fighters Honor Guard. Christina LaVicka, Wisconsin Education Association Council, sang the National Anthem. Father Joseph Mattern of theCasa-Esther Catholic Worker House provided the invocation.
Over the course of the day, delegates will hear from state and national leaders including Laura Dresser, Center on Wisconsin Strategy; Damon Silvers, Director of Policy and Special Counsel, National AFL-CIO; State Senator Jessica King (D-18); State Representative Peter Barca (D-64); Jamie Wall, candidate for 8th CD; Wisconsin State AFL-CIO President Phil Neuenfeldt and Wisconsin State AFL-CIO Secretary-Treasurer Stephanie Bloomingdale.
Report of the Rules Committee was read by George Walls, CWA Local 4603, and adopted by delegates. The Report of the Credential Committee was read by Martin Beil, Executive Director of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) Council 24 and adopted by delegates. The Secretary-Treasurer’s Report was adopted.
