Highlights of the address:
We’ve traveled a great journey together these last two years. I’m not sure any of us knew the challenges and triumphs and tests we would be put through when we gathered in Green Bay two years ago.
We knew we had to work like hell in the upcoming elections but we had no idea the devastating consequences and pain Scott Walker would attempt to inflict on the union men and women of Wisconsin.
Gov. Walker expected his legislation to be introduced, passed and signed into law all in a matter of days but we stood up, joined together and mounted the greatest fight Wisconsin has ever known. The work we did was about much more than one election. We laid the groundwork for a powerful movement to push back against extremist policies everywhere.
The fight we are in is not just about unions or who wins election in November, this is a fight for the hearts and souls of America. It is a fight we must commit ourselves to everyday, in every way. Our dream of a better and brighter, more equal America, has been under attack in a new way over the last few years.
Today, we look out on a new horizon, a horizon where outrage is turning into energy and action and showing us a new path forward. We have to stand together for a future when every single worker has the fundamental right to be treated with dignity, to put in a hard day's work, and be rewarded fairly for it.
