Biden made it clear from the start of the debate that half-truths, myths and outright lies were not going to be acceptable. In response to Rep. Paul Ryan’s first answer, Biden politely responded “with all due respect, that was a bunch of malarkey.”
Biden explained that under Barack Obama’s leadership our economy is adding jobs and unemployment is falling. With passion and energy Biden laid out a future for our country where middle class families are put first, explaining that we cannot go back to the failed Republican-backed policies which caused the economic crisis in the first place.
On the issue of Medicare Biden asked directly, "folks, use your common sense. Who do you trust on this?" noting Paul Ryan's plan would increase Medicare costs to recipients by $6,000 a year.
Biden also referenced Romney's secretly recorded comments where he writes off 47% of Americans, claiming they depend on government benefits and will never vote Republican.
"Romney points out 47% of the people won't take responsibility," Biden said. "... He's talking about the people that have built this country. All they're looking for is an even shot."
