AFL-CIO Mail Continues to Educate Union Members on Critical November Elections

The Labor2012 political program is firing on all cylinders as we head into the final weeks of the November campaign.  Whether it is a door knock, phone call, worksite flyer or political mail piece, union members are hearing from their union about the importance of the November 2012 election and about who will fight for working people in office. 

“As workers, our main concern is the economy,” said Phil Neuenfeldt, President of the Wisconsin State AFL-CIO.  “The union is a trusted messenger on economic issues and our members know that we only fight for politicians who will fight for jobs and economic equality for all.  While Wisconsinites are bombarded with television ads and flashy campaign slogans – our message cuts through the jargon and focuses on working class issues which resonate with our members.”   

Two pieces will drop this week in the U.S. Senate race.  “Thompson’s not working…for you,” highlights Thompson’s history as a D.C. lobbyist working for big insurance and drug companies.  It details Thompson’s plans to do away with Medicare, his support for a budget that raises taxes on middle class families and his support of Gov. Walker’s union-busting collective bargaining law. 

A pro-Baldwin piece will be mailed to union households across the state recommending Tammy Baldwin for U.S. Senate because of her commitment to good jobs, education and retirement security.   The mailer reads:  “Tammy Baldwin sides with working families on the issues that matter most.  She has consistently voted for tax fairness, pay equality and Medicare.  She’s a person the middle class can trust.”

Mail will drop in the 7^th Congressional District outlining Sean Duffy’s vote for the Romney-Ryan plan to end Medicare and replace it with a privatized voucher system which would raise out-of-pocket costs for seniors by thousands of dollars.   The mailer encourages working families to protect Medicare for themselves and their neighbors by voting for Pat Kreitlow on November 6.
