Given the Scott Walker agenda for Wisconsin, and for working women, and a Republican Legislature unwilling to stand up to him, it is clear that there is a great need for people who will stand up. From harming small businesses to gutting education to cutting SeniorCare and BadgerCare, Scott Walker and the Fitzgerald brothers have put Wisconsin’s families at risk.
Emerge Wisconsin, a training program for Democratic women who plan to run for office at all levels of government, is making sure we have those people ready to stand up against the attacks on working families. Emerge recently announced their plans to move up their training program in response to leadership crisis in Madison. This move will allow more Democratic women the opportunity to be trained and ready to run next fall.
Scott Walker has not only unwittingly woken a “sleeping giant” with his overreaching agenda but he has also motivated more women to run for office in order to take back the legislature for working people.
With the momentum around the recalls; the rallies across Wisconsin; the continued fight for education, healthcare, basic rights that Scott Walker and the GOP are attacking every day; we are seeing new faces who may not have ever considered running for office before but are now ready to step up and fight.
In addition to helping take back the legislature, Emerge Wisconsin’s move of their 2012 program will give us an expected increase of more women in the state legislature. We look forward to seeing the increase of women representing us in Madison to move up from its abysmal 23% representation.
The Wisconsin State AFL-CIO is a partner of Emerge Wisconsin and supports their efforts to train more women from organized labor to run for office.
