As you can tell from the photographs, health care was on the minds of many Milwaukee Area Labor Council members as they marched this year. Over 1,000 signed postcards were collected in support of health insurance reform and the Employee Free Choice Act.
Earlier in the day Rep. Baldwin and Sen. Russ Feingold drew a crowd of approximately 20,000 people to Labor Day celebrations in Rock County. Feingold has also been a strong supporter of health insurance reform and the rights of workers to join and form unions.
Rep. Ron Kind attended Labor Day events in both Eau Claire and La Crosse. The Eau Claire Labor Day picnic drew about 350 people. The La Crosse Labor Day parade boasted between 300 and 400 union marchers with over 1,000 spectators cheering them on.
Close to 800 people participated in Labor Day events sponsored by the Greater Green Bay Labor Council. Be sure to read the fantastic coverage of labor issues which ran in the Green Bay Press Gazette:
Marathon County showcased a Labor Day parade, drawing thousands of participants. The Wood County and Vicinity CLC hosted Labor Day activities for hundreds of union and community members in Wisconsin Rapids. Fox Valley, Fond du Lac, and Oshkosh all hosted local Labor Day activities. Not to be out done, union members in Superior held their annual Labor Day Dance.
